Kenton Ralph Toews grew up in Alberta, Canada. He has 10 years of experience as a petroleum engineer in the oil & gas industry. He graduated in 2002 with a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary. After finishing school he worked in the oil fields of Northern Canada which led to postings in Australia, Yemen, Libya, Turkey, and Cuba. In Cuba, Kenton worked on a team in conjunction with the government to drill extended reach horizontal oil wells and operate 10,000 bopd heavy oil production.
In 2010, Kenton’s passion for free markets and investing led to selling gold and silver bullion. Shortly thereafter in 2011, he joined Sprott Global as a Financial Advisor and continues to sell bullion. He applies the same techniques in evaluating oil wells to valuing all resource stocks. Mining and oil & gas are both extractive industries and the valuation of the underlying companies are based on the same principles.
Mr. Toews is a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), has a Series 7 license, Series 66 license, Canadian Securities Course (CSC), and completed Level 1 of the CFA® program.
Mr. Toews is an advocate of free markets and the principles of Austrian economics. He believes the manipulation of interest rates down to historical lows, and in some cases going negative, is signaling the end of fiat money. The end has been accelerated with the advent of blockchain technology where decentralized currencies will make central bank (centralized) currencies obsolete.
The manipulation of interest rates has created an unprecedented credit bubble that is distorting all markets around the globe. The low-interest rate environment is forcing yield-hungry investors into taking on more risk than they otherwise would, driving up asset prices in search for some kind of return on their money. When interest rates go up the risks in those investments will become apparent and those who were able to preserve their wealth will stand to benefit.
Kenton believes precious metals should be the core of a portfolio for capital preservation along with resource stocks and crypto-currencies for speculative upside. Kenton takes into consideration each individual client’s investment objectives and risk tolerance to build them a resource stock portfolio. He allocates money through buying stocks on the open market, buying and selling options, and participating in private placements. Kenton employs these strategies and more to manage portfolios for Accredited Investors with a minimum account size of $200,000.
