Ivanhoe Mines - Kamoa/Kakula, DRC - Feb 2017

In February Rick Rule and Andrew Jackson visited Ivanhoe's Kamoa and Kakula sites in southern DR Congo.  Time on site was unfortunately very limited due to logistical issues, but they came away with a good impression of the shear scale and excellent grade shown by both projects.  Kakula, in particular is a truly remarkable Tier 1 deposit that is still wide open to the NW and is likely to continue growing for some time.

One feature of these deposits is the composition of the Cu sulphides - mostly chalcocite with some bornite; this produces a far higher grade concentrate than one consisting of the more common chalcopyrite.
